are you a parent?

Being in a business that involves little ones makes me feel really left out quite often. New parents converse like I'm a dumb ass who has ABSOLUTELY no idea what's going on because I don't have one. Hello?! My expertise in Kindermusik didn't exist out of the blue. I take pride in my work. I take pride and support KM fully with 100% of my being. I worked and am working hard to keep up with the latest research and exposing families to the beliefs and benefits of KM like:

  1. Every parent is the child's most important teacher.
  2. The home is the most important learning environment.
  3. Every child is musical.
  4. Music nurtures a child's cognitive, emotional, social, linguistic, and physical development.
  5. Every child should experience the joy, fun, and learning which music brings to life.
Sadly, most parents can't even grasp #1. Most can't go about without their maids or nannies.

Ok ok, I'm just blowing off steam.. (Better state my disclaimer before parents who read this come around to shoot me) There's always two sides to a story. I'm just sick and tired of parents who show interest in KM then treat each week as a club meeting or competition. A chance to dress up their child and show him or her off to others. Compete on who smiled, sat up, crawled, walked, ran or climbed when.. Who has read up more on baby and/or parenting books.. Take sides and/or form clicks among yourselves. The better parent vs. the terrible parent. But there's no running away from that is there? Every daddy and mummy are proud of their offspring with the exception of the delusional ones which are not hard to find. Is this a natural course all new parents take? Arrgghh!!!

*Ck- this is one of the reasons we should take into account why we shouldn't have kids. Risking a chance of turning ourselves into one of 'those' parents..

I need a chocolate fix. Chocolate fudge cake and lots of frosting.. topped off with an ice cold super duper creamy chocolate milkshake! Or just a visit across the border for fatty deep fried wings and beer sounds great too. Adult conversations...
